ABOUT THE WORK

(This piece is one of four from Judith that is currently being exhibited in the PCNW gallery as part of our 27th juried exhibition, Visual Narratives. On view until December 14, 2025.)

This image is from the series "SW X SW."

Every spring, I visit my father in the outskirts of Yuma, Arizona at the intersection of Arizona, California and Mexico - the most southwest corner of the southwest; a Bermuda Triangle where anything of interest and beauty seems to have vanished. Once native Sonoran desert, it’s been traumatized by corporate agriculture, military installations, RV lots, manufactured home subdivisions, indigenous and immigrant poverty, climate impacts and abandonment. The desert native landscape written off as ugly or dead and bulldozed into service or gussied up with imported tropical palm trees. Can there be justice for this landscape?
