DESCRIPTION
Learn the essentials of understanding light to create a story or add mood to your portrait work. In this hands-on workshop, portrait photographer Kate Hailey will share techniques on creating compelling portraits.
Lighting Types Highlighted:
- Available light, how to find it, how to manipulate it
- Small continuous lights
- Small Flash/Speedlights + Studio lighting
If you live in the PNW, our seasons are often filled with rain or overcast days, and those days in winter get short quickly. Understanding the options on the market for lighting is crucial to taking your business to the next level.
Lighting Styles Reviewed: Rembrandt, Beauty, High key, Low key, Edge, and more. Attendees will also learn more creative techniques, including the addition of color.
Attendees will leave this session with a firm understanding of how to see light, how to use light, how to add light, how to modify light, while working with a model.
Kate will round out the session with a short editing demonstration using Adobe Lightroom Classic.
What to Bring:
- Camera, with a hot shoe
- A lens in the 35 - 105mm range, 23 - 85 on crop sensor cameras. Kate’s fave lenses for portraits are 50mm and 85mm focal lengths.
- Fully charged battery
- Memory Cards
- Notebook for taking notes
- Questions!
Attendees should have an understanding of essential settings on their cameras including Aperture, ISO, White Balance, Shutter Speed, Flash Settings and how to change them.
