This hands-on two day workshop will introduce students to varied methods for developing classic C-41 color negative films such as Ektar and Portra. Different equipment and materials will be covered in detail including JOBO processing, automated tabletop processors (PhotoTherm), laboratory water baths, sous vide (CineStill), and kitchen sink solutions. We will also discuss basic chemistry options, recommended times and information regarding a spectrum of process solutions from best practices to ad hoc get it done explorations, including room temp and outdoor development!

This workshop is geared toward those who are curious about options for home development as well as introductory information about setting up an at-home analog color darkroom. All chemistry will be provided. Students should bring several rolls of their own C-41 process 35mm, medium format or 4×5 color negatives to develop (results may vary).

NOTE: Developing E-6 color transparencies (slide film) may be discussed but will not be part of the curriculum.
