In-person at Editions Studio, enrollment is limited to 12 students.
The flatback is the basic hard cover binding and probably the most ubiquitous form of codex. This form of binding is marked by a hinged, flat spine, as opposed to a rounded back or exposed binding (or spiral-bound or scrolls, etc.); the pages are folded into sets of signatures, sewn, and then "cased-in" to the prepared board and cloth covers. In this workshop, participants will learn to prepare this traditional structure by hand using pre-printed pages. Please bring your pages prepared in signatures as instructed in the Intro to InDesign for Photobooks workshop. If you did not take that workshop, you may choose to bind a blank book, or you may purchase a book-in-sheets from Editions Studio on the day of the workshop.
