DESCRIPTION
Curious or passionate about contemporary photography? Looking to expand the conceptual depth of your own work? Now is a great time to read some provocative essays, to visit museums’ virtual galleries, to explore ways individual photographic artists present their websites, and to debate their approaches. Over several weekly sessions facilitated by noted faculty member Dr. Elizabeth Brown, come together for interactive online conversations to consider a few of the dominant modes of cutting-edge photographic work. Here’s an opportunity to dive deeply into an area that has intrigued you for some time, to enjoy some lively discussions (accompanied by the libations of your choice as you relax in your own home), and to build a new community. Some of the topics to consider include: conceptualism; feminism; performing for the camera; process-based work exploring chemistry or recuperating the techniques of so-called “Primitive” photography (such as daguerreotypes and gum bichromate); documentary turned inward to reveal the personal; and the aftermath of the New Topographics.
