This short form class is for those that want to continue their exploration of working with digital negatives beyond the traditional printing covered in Methods in Alternative Process I & II. In this class we will experiment with alternative substrates for printing digital negatives, play with montage techniques, explore ideas around camera-less work, and discuss the uses of digital positives. Students will also be encouraged to explore their own creative ideas as to how digital negatives might be used to create new work. This class is the perfect precursor to the Photogravure workshop that will be offered in the second half of spring quarter.
- Students must have proficient working knowledge of black and white darkroom procedure and basic digital image editing, equivalent to the skills gained in Photography II: Black & White and Digital Imaging I: Photoshop Fundamental, to join this class.
- Students should expect to spend several hours per week on assignments for this course, which will require use of PCNW facilities; view our Rental Rates for details about additional fees.
- The Materials Fee for the course includes materials used for demonstrations, in-class and some outside-of-class printing, and other costs associated with in-class use of the digital lab and darkroom. Students will be required to purchase additional digital printing materials and other supplies to complete assignments for the course.
- Additional information about course expectations and required materials will be provided by the instructor at the start of the quarter.
