Students will engage in a collaborative effort to create a broadsheet/zine that explores visual literacy, and the integration of photography and print design. Drawing on the work of contemporary photographers and historical figures, the course will discuss different approaches to creating printed pieces, and will delve into topics relevant to contemporary image making, including the ethics of representation; insider vs. outsider perspectives; photographer/subject collaboration; and photography's relationship to truth. Students will then come up with an idea to explore collaboratively, and determine the visual language and approach they'll take. They'll create and discuss images, work together to edit and sequence, and then design a finished piece.
