DESCRIPTION
Using Seattle Art Museum's current exhibition Dawoud Bey & Carrie Mae Weems: In Dialogue as inspiration, this workshop will be based on close “readings” of these two renowned photo-media artists. Each of these photographers approaches their work differently. Each “model” suggests a different notion of how photography defines or delineates their practice; each is thoughtful about form, technique, process, content, and concept — every aspect of making work that can influence the viewer’s experience.
The first meeting, on Saturday, January 14 (11am-1pm) will take place in SAM’s galleries as we consider each artist’s projects and conceptual strategies. Participants will then develop skills in critical analysis and research, derive take-aways from these two models, and incorporate new approaches into their own work for our subsequent group critiques at PCNW on Tuesday, January 24 & 31 (6-8pm).
The approach of this workshop offers a chance to blow your own working process wide open to better comprehend your priorities and intentions.
