CREDITS 3 – Fulfills Elective requirement for Certificate Program

This experimental class explores the iterative nature of image making, using digital and analog tools to fold photography back on itself again and again. Through facilitated presentations, group discussions, and lab time to experiment, students will play with both found and authored images, exploring the potential of photography and other image-making processes to function as recursive recycling mechanisms. Through the introduction of tools such as tearing, folding, image transfer, scanning, re-photographing, compositing and printing, students will translate work through multiple processes, pushing the limits of reproducibility and examining multiple possibilities for finished, refined work. The incorporation of other media such as mark-making, print processes and 3D/sculptural forms is highly encouraged! This promises to be an inspiring class for anyone interested in peeling back the layers of photography.
