DESCRIPTION
Portraits come in all shapes and sizes; babies, children, environmental portraits, studio portraits, editorial portraits. The ”job” of the portrait is to portray something about the subject that goes beyond the surface. How do we become better portrait photographers? How do we develop deep connection with the subject? How do we focus on both the subject and on the technical parts of the job at the same time? How do we use natural light with expertise?

This course will demonstrate ways to connect with our subjects and how to use natural light with finesse. We will study the work of masters in photography and painting who can educate and inspire us. Photographers in this class will be challenged to complete portrait assignments ranging from self-portraits to family members to people new to us, as current restrictions allow.

In addition to the photography assignments, photographers will be asked to journal about ideas, inspirations, and what they have discovered.
